The Missing Link? Discovery of Pulsations in the Nitrogen-rich PG 1159 Star PG 1144+005

چکیده
Up to 98% of all single stars will eventually become white dwarfs—stars that link the history and future evolution Galaxy, whose previous is engraved in their interiors. Those interiors can be studied using asteroseismology, utilizing stellar pulsations as seismic waves. The pulsational instability strips DA DB dwarf are pure, allowing for important generalization interior structure represents dwarfs. This not case hottest pulsating dwarfs, GW Vir stars: only about 50% dwarfs this domain pulsate. Several explanations impurity strip have been proposed, based on different elemental abundances, metallicity, helium content. Surprisingly, there a dichotomy rich nitrogen, which by itself cannot cause pulsation driving, pulsate—the exception being nitrogen-rich nonpulsator PG 1144+005. Here, we report discovery 1144+005 new observations. We identified four frequency regions: 40, 55, 97, 112 day−1 with low variable amplitudes 3–6 mmag therefore confirm nitrogen dichotomy. As trace element revealing occurrence very late thermal pulse (VLTP) hot stars, speculate it VLTP provides required make pulsator.

HS 2324 + 3944 : discovery of non - radial pulsations in a hydrogen - rich PG 1159 star ⋆
HS2324+3944 is a peculiar PG1159 star, with a high amount of H in its atmosphere (Dreizler et al. 1995). Its location in the logTeff – log g plane is well inside the GW Vir instability strip. In this paper I report the results of two photoelectric observations of HS 2324+39, which clearly show that the luminosity of this star presents periodical variations with a period of (2140 ± 11) s. This p...
متن کاملThe first PG 1159 close binary system
The archival spectrum of SDSS J212531.92-010745.9 shows not only the typical signature of a PG 1159 star, but also indicates the presence of a companion. With time-series photometry of SDSS J212531.92-010745.9 during 10 nights, spread over one month, with the Tübingen 80 cm and the Göttingen 50 cm telescopes, the binary nature of this object has recently been proven. An orbital period of 6.9 h ...
متن کاملABELL 43 , a second pulsating “ hybrid - PG 1159 ” star ⋆
An abstract should be given e report observations of the planetary nebula nucleus Abell 43, obtained at the 2.5m Nordic Optical Telescope, which show that it is a pulsator. Abell 43, a " hybrid-PG 1159 " type star, is the second pulsator of this class, after HS 2324+3944. From the limited data set acquired, we find that Abell 43 exhibits at least two periods of 2600 s and 3035 s, the longest on...
متن کاملDetection of non - radial g - mode pulsations in the newly discovered PG 1159 star HE 1429 − 1209
We performed time-series photometry of the PG1159-type star HE 1429−1209, which was recently discovered in the ESO SPY survey. We show that the star is a low-amplitude (≈0.05 mag) non-radial g-mode pulsator with a period of 919 s. HE 1429−1209 is among the hottest known post-AGB stars (T eff =160 000 K) and, together with the known pulsator RX J2117.1+3412, it defines empirically the blue edge ...
متن کاملSoft X - ray Spectroscopy of the Hot DA White Dwarf LB 1919 and the PG 1159 Star PG 1520 + 525
We have performed soft X-ray spectroscopy of two hot white dwarfs with the Chandra observatory using the Low Energy Transmission Grating. The first target is the hot DA white dwarf LB1919 (T eff =69 000 K). This star is representative of a small group of hot DAs whose metallicities lie well below predictions from radiative levitation theory. The Chandra spectrum shows a rich absorption line spe...
